LOCAL PLACES TO EAT AND DRINK

All within walking or short driving distance of the apartment, although all can be walked

to by the fitter or more adventurous, as none are further than about one and half miles

A)           MANDARIN CHINESE  (in the building at the bottom of the road)

Good quality and good value Chinese food.  Their house wine is less than seven euros a bottle.  The restaurant has a large outside terrace which overlooks part of Cabopino golf course.  They also do takeaways and are usually open till around midnight every night of the week.  There are menus in the apartment.

B)           Z BAR  (in the building at the bottom of the road)

This bar  is under new management and  the drink and food prices are very reasonable.  The food served is mainly pizzas, pasta, burgers and salads and is good, particularly the pizzas, which are made on the premises and are recommended.  They have a happy hour every evening from 19.00 till 21.00 and they are open till late.

B3)         ANDY’S BAR  (at the top of the hill in La Reserva de Marbella Phase 2)

Recently opened bar/restaurant, owned by the beach bar of the same name on Cabopino beach .  It is situated next door to a small supermarket, which has the same owner.  We have eaten at this bar and can recommend it, the menu of the day being particularly good value.  Happy hour is 17.00 to 19.00.

C)           MASON DEL PEUBLO (VILLAGE INN)  This is just across the other side of the main road in a small square behind the Gomez Vina estate agency.  It can be reached by driving or by walking as described in the Travelling or Eating Out sections of the Information Sheet.

Owned and run by Antonio who gives excellent quality and a very friendly service.  There is a BBQ in the summer and outdoor Spanish Flamenco dancing on Tuesdays and Saturdays from May to September.  This show is recommended and booking is advised on Flamenco nights.  Closed daytime Sundays, but they are open Sunday evening.

There is an Internet café next door for those wanting web or email access.

D)           EL RANCHO  This is about 200M up the road from The Village Inn, towards Marbella.

Excellent, traditionally furnished Spanish restaurant.  Has a good al la carte menu, but the best value and recommended is the three course set menu.  Very nice place for a special occasion and booking is advised.  Well worth trying, but can get very busy in the peak season.

E)           EL CORTIJO (THE FARMHOUSE) This is about 200M up the road from The Village Inn, going in the opposite direction from EL Rancho.  It is located on the left-hand side of the road that goes past the houses.  This road is the nearest route to the beach.

Traditional unpretentious Spanish/German restaurant.  It has a nice outside area and has good value food, with an outside BBQ in the summer.  If you are a meat eater try the mixed grill, which is large.  El Cortijo is well worth trying.  Closed on Tuesdays.

G)           JAPHOR PALACE

This is recently opened Indian restaurant.  As well as the sit in restaurant it also does takeaways.

It can be reached by driving down the road that goes round the side of the building housing the Mandarin Restaurant.  You go down and up a short very steep slope, carry on up the slip road and go straight across the roundabout you come to.  The Japhor Palace is on the left shortly afterwards.  We have not tried this restaurant so cannot give any guidance on it.

H)           BRUNO’S Italian restaurant.

This is a situated about 200M past the Japhor Place and is adjacent to the roundabout that takes you over the main road and down to Cabopino marina.  A nice restaurant in a very pleasant setting.  Gets very busy in the high season so booking is advised at this time.

If you want to walk to Japhor Palace or Bruno’s, but don’t fancy the up and downs of the road that goes round the side of the building housing the Mandarin, you can reach both by walking along the side of the main road towards Malaga and joining the slip road at the next exit.

I)             THE SPORTSMAN

English owned sports bar located at the Cabopino Commercial Centre.  This can be found just up the slip road from BRUNO’S.  Serving very good bar food at a reasonable price.  Shows all major sporting events on three screens, live Premiership football on Saturdays as well as Sundays.

J)            VILLA DA GINO

Traditional and very well furnished Italian restaurant in the area behind Le Papillion (referred to on page 3 of this guide).  It is opposite the Cayetano supermarket, which is in the entrance to the Marbella campsite.  Has a large outdoor terrace that can get busy in the high season or a nice indoor ambience for the rest of the year.  A good pasta menu or ask for the daily specials.

CABOPINO MARINA      located off the next junction down the main road towards Malaga.  If you want the beach you can park in the car park on the right hand side as you go down the slip road towards the Marina.  If you want the marina it is best to park in the streets outside and walk into the port and you can still access the beach this way.  There is some parking in the marina itself, but this is fairly limited.

This marina is well worth a visit, although not anywhere on the size scale of Puerto Banus it is a very attractive and pleasant place.  There are numerous restaurants both inside and just outside the port, everything from Spanish, Italian, Chinese, Indian, English and fish.  Prices vary so have a look around before making your choice.  Just at the entrance to the beach from inside the port is La Lonja, which serves a wide range of traditional Spanish tapas.  The next one along is Andy’s bar, which is good value with plenty of choice. The beach here is about the best on this stretch of the coast, it is very safe and various watersports are available.  The beach past Andy’s bar is naturist, so be aware if you wander too far.

ACCESS TO THE BEACH

Apart from Cabopino you can access the beach at numerous points by going through the urbanisation of MARBESA (see the Travelling and Eating Out sections of our Information sheet).  All of these points have direct access to the beach and most of them have a beach bar conveniently situated next to them.  There is parking next to all of these beach bars and they are listed below.

BEACH BARS/RESTURANTS

There are a number of nice beach bar/restaurants near La Reserva and can be reached as described in

our Information Sheet (Travelling and Eating Out Sections), all are worth trying and are as listed

below.  They are not actually on the beach, but are next to it and all have direct access to the

beach.  The beaches along here are generally good for sunbathing, but take care if swimming as some

areas of the sea are rocky.

K)           TIRANAS

Has a lovely location over looking the sea and has a varied reasonably priced menu. Open all week This is the nearest one to Cabopino, which can be walked to, but you need to be aware that the stretch of the beach between here and Cabopino is naturist.

L)           SINBADS

This is the next one along the beach towards Marbella.  Has a nice setting with the tables overlooking the sea.  The menu is a bit limited, but is good value.  Open all week.

M)          RA-MA

The next one going westward towards Marbella.  This is an attractive restaurant with a sunken eating area with shade.  Good menu with the paella worth trying.  Again has direct access to the beach.  Closed Mondays.

N)           CLUB 200

Next one after RA-MA.  This restaurant is as close to the sea as you could get without being in it.  If you can get a table nearest the front you will have a lovely view and the sea is right below where you sit.  Do not be put off by the appearance of the place as you walk up to it, as it is the most popular of all of these restaurants and is heavily used by the Spanish, which is always a good sign.  The menu is good with the emphasis on fish.  Booking advisable on Sundays.  The beach here is narrow and rocky so not the place for swimming.  Open all week.

O)           LE PAPILLION

Very attractive and well presented restaurant fronted with an area of lawn with four poster loungers, which then leads down to the beach.  Probably the most attractive setting of all of the beach bars listed, but they all have their good points.  The al la carte menu here is good, but can be a little pricey and better value is off the snack menu.  They have live entertainment on Sundays and Wednesdays evenings and are closed on Mondays.  This restaurant has had good reviews from some of our guests.  The beach here is nice and is a good starting place for a beach walk towards Marbella.
